Clarinet

The clarinet is a family of woodwind instruments. It has a single-reed mouthpiece, a straight, cylindrical tube with an almost cylindrical bore, and a flared bell. A person who plays a clarinet is called a clarinetist (sometimes spelled clarinettist).

The clarinet is a wonderfully versatile instrument which can be played in orchestras, concert bands, jazz and chamber groups. Developed in the late 1600’s, it is one of the ‘youngest’ musical instruments, believe it or not! The clarinet is traditionally made from grenadilla wood. However, for beginners, a plastic clarinet is a good option as it is lighter to hold, easier to play and more affordable.

Clarinet lessons are available at Accent Music Studios for students from all over the lower mainland. Currently we provide music lessons to students from North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Vancouver and Richmond.

Here are a couple of examples of the clarinet being played as a solo instrument with orchestra and in a jazz combo.
