In every orchestra around the world the tuning note is always played by the principal oboist. A member of the woodwind family, the oboe has a clear, penetrating and almost haunting sound and oboists have many beautiful solos to play in band and orchestra. The instrument is primarily used in classical music although many oboe players have crossed into jazz and other popular styles. The oboe is traditionally made from wood although student models are plastic. The sound is produced by blowing air across a double reed, in the same fashion as a party tooter or playing a blade of grass.

At Accent Music Studios, we offer oboe lessons to students from around the lower mainland, including North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Vancouver and Richmond.
