The trumpet is the highest instrument in the brass family and a lead instrument in concert, military, brass, jazz and rock bands and symphony orchestras. Historically, trumpets have been around since 1500 BC. Through the ages they have been used for religious and military purposes, heralding important people and events and conveying messages to troops in battle. Once valves were added in the late classical era, and chromatic notes became possible, the trumpet became the dominant force it remains today.

The instrument is made from brass, has three valves and has a mouthpiece which you buzz into. Brass instruments require little set up time but lots of warm up time. Your lips need to be in good condition and very flexible to play the trumpet.
