Violin

The violin, sometimes known as a fiddle, is a wooden string instrument in the violin family. Most violins have a hollow wooden body. It is the smallest and highest-pitched instrument (soprano) in the family in regular use.[a] The violin typically has four strings, usually tuned in perfect fifths with notes G3, D4, A4, E5, and is most commonly played by drawing a bow across its strings. It can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers (pizzicato) and, in specialized cases, by striking the strings with the wooden side of the bow (col legno).

Violin lessons are available at Accent Music Studios in North Vancouver. Our violin instructor teaches violin to students from North Vancouver, West Vancouver as well as other lower mainland areas. Violin lessons can be taken in person at our north shore location or online. Our violin teacher will ensure that a student begins with and maintains correct posture, hand positioning, finger and bowing technique, producing an excellent tone and developing reading and ear training skills. Learning the violin takes commitment and dedication and an inspiring and energetic teacher will make learning a pleasure. Visit our violin teacher’s bio at the bottom of this page. Trial violin lessons are available as well as for every other string, woodwind and brass instrument.

The violin is an instrument which can be taught at a very early age. Starting at three years of age is not uncommon although five and six years of age are optimal. However, it is never too late to start learning any instrument and as much pleasure can be derived from playing the violin for an octogenarian as it is for an eight-year-old.

The violin does take longer to master than any other instrument, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

For young players, the violin is scaled down to accommodate smaller hands and limited strength. As players grow, so do their violins until the standard size is manageable.

String players are always in demand playing in chamber music, symphony and jazz orchestras, rock and pop bands, in folk music ensembles and, of course, as soloists.

Here are a couple of pieces demonstrating this remarkable instrument

Niccolò Paganini - Caprice 24

Widely considered one of the most difficult pieces ever written for the solo violin this piece requires many highly advanced techniques

Vivaldi Four Seasons: Spring

One of the most famous pieces written for violin which never gets old even though it was written in 1716.

Violin lessons are available at Accent Music Studios by an experienced teacher and professional violinist. We accept students from all over the lower mainland servicing mainly North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Richmond and Vancouver.
